Regular Season Round 18: Palencia - Melilla 70-75

Date: January 9, 2011
There was no surprise when 17th ranked Palencia Baloncesto (5-13) lost at home to eighth ranked Melilla Baloncesto (9-9) 75-70 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Palencia Baloncesto won third quarter 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Melilla Baloncesto won last quarter 19-16. American-Austrian guard Jason Detrick (198-80, college: Oklahoma) notched 16 points to lead the effort and American center Jeff Foote (213-88, college: Cornell) supported him with 6 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. Melilla Baloncesto's coach Gonzalo Garcia allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 14 points and 9 rebounds by American center Timothy Frost (208-80, college: Utah, agency: BrezoPro) did not help to save the game for Palencia Baloncesto. Forward Alejandro Navajas (201-86) added 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Palencia Baloncesto players scored in double figures. Melilla Baloncesto moved-up to seventh place, which they share with La Laguna. Loser Palencia Baloncesto dropped to the sixteenth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Huesca. Melilla Baloncesto will meet at home league's leader Obradoiro CAB in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Palencia Baloncesto will play against Clinicas Rincon (#13) in Malaga and hope to secure a win.
