Regular Season Round 27: Pyrinto - Salon Vilpas 101-65

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Salon Vilpas (9-18) was crushed on the road by second ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (21-6) 101-65 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Tampereen Pyrinto led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Salon Vilpas was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Damon Williams (201-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo) who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The former international power forward Antti Nikkila (210-78, college: Valparaiso) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Nigerian guard Nick Okorie (185-88, college: Texas Tech) who recorded 12 points and 5 assists and the former international forward Jukka Kataja (197-82) added 14 points respectively. Five Tampereen Pyrinto and four Salon Vilpas players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tampereen Pyrinto have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 21-6 record behind leader KTP. Loser Salon Vilpas keeps the tenth position with 18 games lost. Tampereen Pyrinto will face league's leader KTP-Basket in Kotka in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Salon Vilpas will play at home against Kauhajoen Karhu (#8) in Kauhajoki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
