Regular Season Round 12: Aris - Panionios 84-89

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Aris (7-5) against eleventh ranked Panionios (5-7) on Wednesday night. Host Aris was defeated by eleventh ranked Panionios (5-7) in a tough game in Thessaloniki 84-89. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aris. Aris was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 47-40 second half run of Panionios. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Aris' 28. Strangely Aris outrebounded Panionios 33-21 including 25 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian guard Milos Vujanic (192-80) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 8 assists and Nigerian power forward Chinemelu Elonu (208-87, college: Texas A&M, agency: Impact Basketball) who added 18 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Five Panionios players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Christos Tapoutos (208-82) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and guard Kosta Charalampidis (189-76) scored 14 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Panionios moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Ikaros. Aris at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with VAP Kolossos and Kavala. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens AEK.
