Top ranked KTP-Basket (22-5) recorded its fifth loss in Helsinki on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked Torpan Pojat (13-14) 94-85. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of KTP-Basket. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-18. But KTP-Basket won second period 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Torpan Pojat made 27-of-35 free shots (77.1 percent) during the game. 31 personal fouls committed by KTP-Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward LaVell Blanchard (201-81, college: Michigan, agency: Beo Basket) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. The former international power forward Hanno Mottola (209-76, college: Utah) chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Jerald Fields (201-82, college: E.Tenn.St., agency: Lanshire Group) who recorded 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import guard Jeb Ivey (190-80, college: Portland St.) added 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) respectively. Four KTP-Basket players scored in double figures. Torpan Pojat maintains seventh place with 13-14 record. KTP-Basket at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. Torpan Pojat are looking forward to face higher ranked Espoo Honka (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KTP-Basket will play against the league's second-placed Tampereen Pyrinto (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
