There was no surprise when 18th ranked CB Granada (3-13) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Unicaja Malaga (8-8) 73-69 on Wednesday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-8. But CB Granada won second period 24-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Unicaja Malaga won last quarter 21-18. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by CB Granada's players. Worth to mention a great performance of British forward Joel Freeland (208-87) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American-Bulgarian guard Roderick Blakney (181-76, college: S.Carolina St.) who added 12 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American guard Coby Karl (196-83, college: Boise St.) responded with 19 points and his fellow American import forward Robert Kurz (206-85, college: Notre Dame, agency: Priority Sports) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Gran Canaria. CB Granada lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Unicaja Malaga will meet at home Gran Canaria 2014 (#9) in the next round. CB Granada will play against Meridiano Alicante (#17) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
