There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Oita Heat Devils (12-14) beat at home 6th ranked Akita Happinets (8-16) 94-77 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 54-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Oita Heat Devils made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Oita Heat Devils especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Quite impressive performance for American forward Taj Finger (203-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Kohei Mitomo (179-80) contributed with 22 points and 5 assists for the winners. Nigerian forward Ayodokun Akingbade (207-84, college: George Washington) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 23 rebounds and American forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) added 21 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Akita Happinets. Akita Happinets' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Oita Heat Devils. They maintain sixth place with 12-14 record which they share with defeated Akita Happinets. Loser Akita Happinets keep the sixth position with 16 games lost. Oita Heat Devils will face higher ranked Niigata Albirex (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
