Regular Season Round 26: Okinawa GK - Sendai 89ers 75-78

A very close game took place in Okinawa between Sendai 89ers and Okinawa GK. Second ranked Sendai 89ers (15-8) got a very close victory on the road over 4th ranked Okinawa GK (14-11). Sendai 89ers managed to escape with a 3-point win 78-75 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as Okinawa GK took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sendai 89ers had a 24-22 second period charge getting the lead and Okinawa GK was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-78. American guard Mac Hopson (188-87, college: Idaho) notched a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) supported him with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Sendai 89ers' coach Honoo Hamaguchi allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by guard Shigeyuki Kinjo (182-84) did not help to save the game for Okinawa GK. American swingman Anthony McHenry (201-83, college: Georgia Tech) added 13 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-8 record having ten points less than leader Osaka Evessa. Okinawa GK at the other side keeps the fourth place with 11 games lost. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Okinawa GK will play again at home against the league's second-placed Sendai 89ers (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
