Regular Season Round 14: Taipans - Tigers 95-74

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Melbourne Tigers (5-11) were crushed on the road by fourth ranked Cairns Taipans (10-4) 95-74 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cairns Taipans. Melbourne Tigers managed to win fourth quarter 28-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cairns Taipans forced 20 Melbourne Tigers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Center Ian Crosswhite (212-82, college: Oregon) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Dusty Rychart (201-79, college: Minnesota, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Five Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Jamaican-American guard Corey Williams (191-77, college: Alabama St.) responded with 18 points and naturalized American swingman Benny Lewis (203-87, college: Benedict) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Cairns Taipans moved-up to third place. Loser Melbourne Tigers keep the eighth position with 11 games lost. Cairns Taipans will again meet Melbourne Tigers (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Melbourne Tigers will have a break next round.
