Quarter-Finals Round 1: Pioneros - Angeles 97-78

The game with biggest result difference took place in Cancun. Local Pioneros (27-9) outscored 6th ranked Angeles (23-12) 97-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Angeles. It looked good early as Angeles took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pioneros had a 29-12 second period charge getting the lead and Angeles were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-97. Angeles were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Gregory Grays (185-79, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 rebounds. Jamaican center Kevin Young (206-84, college: Missouri) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Curtis Withers (203-84, college: Charlotte) answered with 18 points and 9 rebounds and Venezuelan forward Axiers Sucre (198-78) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Angeles. Five Pioneros and four Angeles players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pioneros maintains first place with 27-9 record, which they share with Fuerza Regia. Angeles at the other side keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. Pioneros will again play against Angeles (#6) in Puebla in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Angeles will have a break next round.
