Second Stage Round 8: Boca Jrs - 9 de Julio 101-99 OT
Date: January 16, 2011
Boca Juniors (4-5) survived in overtime against Club 9 (3-5) by two points 101-99. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 32-23. But Club 9 won third quarter 26-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Club 9 used huge pressure winning it 25-21 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 7-9. 38 personal fouls committed by Club 9 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American guard Cedric Moodie (187-78, college: Indianapolis) who scored that evening 22 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and power forward Fernando Martina (202-81) supported him with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Even 22 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) did not help to save the game for Club 9. His fellow American import power forward Jerome Meyinsse (206-88, college: Virginia) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Club 9's coach Gustavo Miravet rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Boca Juniors moved-up to eleventh place. Newly promoted Club 9 keeps the twelfth position with five games lost. Boca Juniors' next round opponent will be league's leader Atenas in Cordoba and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Club 9 will play on the road against Sionista (#16) in Parana.
