Second Stage Round 8: Lanus - Olimpico LB 79-57
Date: January 16, 2011
There was no surprise in Buenos Aires where 11th ranked Olimpico de La Banda (3-5) was crushed by fourth ranked Lanus (5-2) 79-57 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Lanus. Olimpico de La Banda managed to win third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lanus dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpico de La Banda's 26. The best player for the winners was American center Terrell Taylor (203-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Dream Team Management) who scored 15 points. Naturalized Italian center Gabriel Fernandez (204-76) chipped in 13 points. Four Lanus players scored in double figures. Guard Lucas Picarelli (184-81) produced 11 points and American center Djibril Kante (201-80, college: Indiana St.) added 9 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lanus moved-up to second place. Loser Olimpico de La Banda dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Lanus will face Regatas Corrientes (#15) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Olimpico de La Banda will play against Libertad Sunchales.
