Very important is a road loss of third ranked Bennet Cantu (10-5) against tenth ranked Cimberio Varese (7-8) on Sunday night. Visiting Bennet Cantu was defeated by Cimberio Varese in Varese 82-65. It looked good early as Bennet Cantu took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cimberio Varese had a 23-14 second period charge getting the lead and Bennet Cantu was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-82. Cimberio Varese dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Bennet Cantu's 24. Cimberio Varese forced 22 Bennet Cantu turnovers and outrebounded them 35-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American guard Phil Goss (186-83, college: Drexel) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 4 assists. Center Diego Fajardo (208-76, agency: Players Group) helped adding 12 points and 8 rebounds. Cimberio Varese's coach Carlo Recalcati allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Maarten Leunen (206-85, college: Oregon) with 9 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Uruguayan guard Nicolas Mazzarino (181-75, agency: Players Group) scored 12 points. Four Bennet Cantu players scored in double figures. Cimberio Varese moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Bennet Cantu at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Cimberio Varese will play against Scavolini Pesaro (#7) on the road in the next round. Bennet Cantu will play against CS Bologna (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
