Quarter-Finals Round 2: Pioneros - Angeles 99-93

The game with biggest result difference took place in Cancun. Local Pioneros (27-9) beat 6th ranked Angeles (23-12) 99-93. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Angeles. It looked good early as Angeles took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pioneros had a 27-25 second period charge getting the lead and Angeles were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 93-99. Pioneros made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Angeles only scored four points from the stripe. American guard Gregory Grays (185-79, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 5 assists. Naturalized American guard Joseph Sanchez (180-83, college: UTPA) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Venezuelan forward Axiers Sucre (198-78) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and American forward Curtis Withers (203-84, college: Charlotte) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Angeles. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Pioneros maintains first position with 27-9 record, which they share with Fuerza Regia. Angeles at the other side keep the sixth place with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
