Regular Season Round 13: Keflavik - Snaefell 112-89

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Snaefell (11-2) on the court of third ranked Keflavik on Monday night. Visitors were rolled over by Keflavik 112-89. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Snaefell. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 18-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 112-89. Keflavik dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Snaefell's 48. Keflavik forced 25 Snaefell turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Keflavik made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Thomas Sanders (191-85, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: Duran International) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 5 steals. The former international guard Axel Vilhjalmsson (188-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Five Keflavik players scored in double figures. Forward Jon Olafur Jonsson (199-81) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds and the former international guard Palmi Sigurgeirsson (190-78) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Snaefell. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Keflavik maintains third place with 9-4 record having just two points less than leader Snaefell, which they share with KR. Defending champion Snaefell still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Grindavik. Keflavik is looking forward to face Stjarnan (#5) on the road in the next round. Snaefell will play against Njardvik (#11) in Njardvik and is hoping to win this game.
