Very important is a road loss of third ranked Cairns Taipans (10-6) against seventh ranked Gold Coast Blaze (7-10) on Wednesday night. Visiting Cairns Taipans were defeated by Gold Coast Blaze in a tough game in Broadbeach 85-90. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cairns Taipans won third quarter 26-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gold Coast Blaze had a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Gold Coast Blaze especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Gold Coast Blaze made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Ira Clark (203-75, college: Texas) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds. International guard Adam Gibson (188-86) accounted for 19 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. Center Ian Crosswhite (212-82, college: Oregon) came up with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American swingman Ronald Dorsey (197-83, college: McNeese St.) added 21 points respectively for Cairns Taipans in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gold Coast Blaze moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 36ers. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the third position with six games lost. Gold Coast Blaze will meet at home bottom-ranked Kings (#9) in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play against the league's leader New Zealand Breakers (#1) in Auckland and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
