Bottom-ranked Kings managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of thirteen consecutive loses on Friday night. This time they won against fifth-ranked Wollongong Hawks in Sydney 81-71. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 40-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Kings outrebounded Wollongong Hawks 62-28 including a 24-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Wollongong Hawks were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for guard Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. The former international center Julian Khazzouh (211-86) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Four Kings players scored in double figures. Kings' coach Ian Robilliard used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international forward Oscar Forman (205-82) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Gary Ervin (186-83, college: Arkansas) added 22 points in the effort for Wollongong Hawks. Kings maintains ninth place with 2-14 record. Wollongong Hawks lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Kings will face higher ranked Gold Coast Blaze (#7) in Broadbeach in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wollongong Hawks will play at home against Cairns Taipans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
