Very important is a road loss of third ranked Cairns Taipans (10-6) against eighth ranked Melbourne Tigers (6-11) on Saturday night. Visiting Cairns Taipans were defeated by Melbourne Tigers in a tough game in Melbourne 76-83. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. It was a great evening for Jamaican-American guard Corey Williams (191-77, college: Alabama St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international center Luke Nevill (218-86, college: Utah) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Ayinde Ubaka (193-85, college: California) with 32 points and 4 assists and center Ian Crosswhite (212-82, college: Oregon) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Melbourne Tigers maintains eighth place with 6-11 record. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the third position with six games lost. Melbourne Tigers will play against bottom-ranked Kings (#9) in Sydney in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play at home against the league's leader New Zealand Breakers (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
