Regular Season Round 23: Toyota Alvark - Mitsubishi DD 83-68
Date: January 22, 2011
There was no surprise in Fuchu where 7th ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (8-15) were defeated by second ranked Toyota Alvark (16-7) 83-68. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Mitsubishi Dolphins managed to win second period 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mitsubishi Dolphins 28-17 including a 21-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Toyota Alvark especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Takeki Shonaka (180-84) contributed with 15 points and 4 steals for the winners. American-Spanish forward Ontario Lett (198-79, college: Pittsburgh) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) added 14 points in the effort for Mitsubishi Dolphins. Four Mitsubishi Dolphins players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Toyota Alvark. They maintain second place with 16-7 record having just two points less than leader Aishin. Mitsubishi Dolphins lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Tochigi Brex. Toyota Alvark will again play against Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in Nagoya in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mitsubishi Dolphins will have a break next round.
