No shocking result in a game in Osaka where third ranked Panasonic Trians (15-8) defeated 6th ranked Tochigi Brex (8-15) 88-77. It looked good early as Tochigi Brex took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Panasonic Trians had a 21-15 second period charge getting the lead and Tochigi Brex was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-88. International guard Hiroyuki Kinoshita (178-80) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Ace Custis (202-74, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Higher Vision Sports) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Panasonic Trians players scored in double figures. Panasonic Trians' coach Yoshiaki Shimizu allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) added 22 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Tochigi Brex. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Panasonic Trians. They maintain third place with 15-8 record having just three points less than leader Aishin. Tochigi Brex lost their fifth game in a row. Defending champion keeps the sixth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Mitsubishi. Panasonic Trians will again play against Tochigi Brex (#6) at home in the next round. Tochigi Brex will have a break next round.
