Everything went according to plan in Valladolid where third ranked Blancos de Rueda (12-6) beat 16th ranked Menorca Basquet (5-13) 71-55. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Blancos de Rueda's pressure prevailed and they won that period 27-14 extending their advantage to 16 points. It was a good game for Dominican forward Eulis Baez (201-82, college: W.Illinois) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American power forward Marcus Slaughter (204-85, college: San Diego St., agency: Beo Basket) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. U.S. Virgin Isl. Swingman Cuthbert Victor (196-83, college: Murray St.) replied with 16 points and 8 rebounds and guard Rafael Huertas (190-84, agency: Court Side) added 13 points in the effort for Menorca Basquet. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Blancos de Rueda have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-6 record having just three points less than leader Regal Barca. Newly promoted Menorca Basquet dropped to the seventeenth place with 13 games lost. Blancos de Rueda's next round opponent will be Asefa Estudiantes (#14) in Madrid which should be an easy win for them. Menorca Basquet will play at home against DKV Joventut in Badalona.
