Regular Season Round 14: Ikaros - AEK Athens 83-68
Date: January 22, 2011
No shocking result in a game in Kalitheas where ninth ranked Ikaros (7-7) defeated 11th ranked AEK (4-10) 83-68. The game was mostly controlled by Ikaros. AEK managed to win third quarter 25-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 24-of-31 charity shots (77.4 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by AEK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Lans Harris (195-83, college: Kansas St.) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import forward Deon Thompson (203-88, college: N.Carolina) supported him with 16 points (perfect from the field making all six shots). Five Ikaros players scored in double figures. Ikaros' coach Aris Likogiannis gave the chance to play for all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even 12 points and 6 rebounds by the former international power forward Dimos Dikoudis (207-77) did not help to save the game for AEK. Naturalized Cypriot forward Prodromos Nikolaidis (201-78) added 13 points for the guests. Ikaros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams. AEK lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with ten games lost. Ikaros' next round opponent will be Panionios (#10) in Athens where they are favorite. AEK's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Olympiakos.
