There was no surprise in Athens where 9th ranked PAOK (4-8) was crushed by fifth ranked Panionios (8-4) 74-52 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Panionios. PAOK managed to win third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panionios forced 21 PAOK turnovers and outrebounded them 41-26 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Kary Koch (173-83, college: Missouri St.) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists and 7 steals. Croatian forward Mirna Mazic (188-85, college: Richmond) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Four Panionios players scored in double figures. Panionios' coach Gavrilos Kalogeropoulos felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Efi Kazantzidou (177-84) who recorded 19 points and American guard Porchia Green (175-87, college: Ball St.) added 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals respectively. Panionios has a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Esperides. Newly promoted PAOK keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. Panionios will face Esperides (#3) in Glyfada in the next round, which may be the game of the day. PAOK will play at home against Olympiakos (#11) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
