Regular Season Round 11: Arkadikos - Apollon Patras 70-68

Ninth-ranked Apollon Patras (4-7) was very close to win a game against fourth ranked Arkadikos (8-3) in Arkadia on Saturday. Arkadikos managed to secure only two-point victory 70-68. However their fans expected much easier game. Apollon Patras was trailing by 8 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-20 charge of Arkadikos, which allowed them to win the game. They made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. Apollon Patras was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Dimitris Katiakos (205-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points. Power forward Sokrates Gizogiannis (202-82) contributed with 13 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Arkadikos' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Nikos Argyropoylos (188-78) answered with 16 points and Serbian forward Djordje Pantelic (204-84) added 7 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Apollon Patras. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Arkadikos. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Lavrio. Apollon Patras lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Arkadikos will face league's leader KAOD in Dramas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Apollon Patras will play at home against Panerythraikos (#11) in New Eritrea and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
