Regular Season Round 12: Athinaikos - Proteas 68-54

Undefeated leader Athinaikos delivered the twelfth consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they beat 10th ranked Proteas (2-10) 68-54 in Athens. The game was mostly controlled by Athinaikos. Proteas managed to win fourth quarter 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Athinaikos forced 24 Proteas turnovers and had a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of Belarusian center Marina Kress (192-80) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and international guard Olga Hatzinikolaou (181-81) who added 13 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Agge Nikolopoulou (179-91) with 16 points and 5 assists and German power forward Linda Frohlich (188-79, college: UNLV, agency: LBM Management) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Athinaikos (12-0) have an impressive 12-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 12 victories in a row. Newly promoted Proteas keeps the tenth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Olympiakos. Athinaikos will meet league's second-placed DAS Ano Liosa on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Proteas will play against Amarillida (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
