Fifth-ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (9-15) were very close to win a game against first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (19-5) in Kariya on Sunday. Aishin Sea Horses managed to secure only two-point victory 85-83. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 24-21 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. The former international power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (205-85) contributed with 21 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international center Joji Takeuchi (206-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Daisuke Kobayashi (189-87) added 24 points in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aishin Sea Horses have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-5 record. Hitachi Sunrockers lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 15 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses are looking forward to face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in Nagoya in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Sunrockers will play on the road against the league's second-placed Toyota Alvark in Fuchu and are hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
