Rather predictable result when third ranked Bennet Cantu (11-5) defeated at home 5th ranked CS Bologna (8-8) 83-67 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Bennet Cantu. CS Bologna managed to win fourth quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bennet Cantu shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized Uruguayan guard Nicolas Mazzarino (181-75, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American forward Maarten Leunen (206-85, college: Oregon) who added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Bennet Cantu players scored in double figures. At the losing side Finnish guard Petteri Koponen (193-88) responded with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and Georgian forward Viktor Sanikidze (203-86) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. CS Bologna's coach Lino Lardo rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Bennet Cantu maintains third position with 11-5 record having four points less than leader Montepaschi. Loser CS Bologna keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Bennet Cantu will face Vanoli-Braga (#13) in Cremona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CS Bologna will play at home against Enel Brindisi (#15).
