Regular Season Round 16: Maccabi Haifa - Hapoel Holon 73-77

Rather predictable result when seventh ranked Hapoel Holon (7-9) defeated on the road 10th ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-11) 77-73. It looked good early as Maccabi Haifa took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hapoel Holon had a 24-14 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Haifa was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-77. Hapoel Holon players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Quite impressive performance for American forward Rich Melzer (203-79, college: Wisc.-RiverFal., agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import forward Eric Campbell (199-76, college: Spring Hill, agency: SportsTalent) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized American guard Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia) replied with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and international forward Elishay Kadir (202-87, agency: Avi Zilberman) added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Maccabi Haifa. Four Hapoel Holon and five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Hapoel Holon maintains seventh position with 7-9 record. Maccabi Haifa lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost. Hapoel Holon's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Hapoel J-M in Jerusalem and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Maccabi Haifa will play on the road against Maccabi Rishon (#5) in Rishon Le-Zion.
