There was a surprise result in Bahia Blanca where fifteenth ranked Estudiantes (3-7) outscored higher ranked Penarol (6-4) 97-74 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Estudiantes. Penarol was better in second period 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American forward Edward Nelson (203-82, college: Connecticut, agency: Dream Team Management) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized Spanish guard Pepe Sanchez (193-77, college: Temple) chipped in 14 points, 6 assists and 6 steals. Four Estudiantes players scored in double figures. The former international power forward Martin Leiva (208-80) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 15 points and 4 steals respectively for the guests. Estudiantes moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Olimpico LB. Defending champion Penarol dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Estudiantes will face higher ranked Monte Hermoso (#9) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
