Very important is a home loss of second ranked Toyota Alvark (17-8) against fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (10-15) on Friday night. Host Toyota Alvark was defeated by Hitachi Sunrockers in a tough game in Fuchu 61-67. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toyota Alvark. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The former international center Joji Takeuchi (206-85) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Tyler Smith (203-80, college: Penn St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) produced 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and guard Takeki Shonaka (180-84) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Toyota Alvark's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains fifth place with 10-15 record. Loser Toyota Alvark keeps the second position with eight games lost. They share it with Panasonic. Hitachi Sunrockers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toyota Alvark will play again against Hitachi Sunrockers in Osaka and hope to secure a win.
