No shocking result in a game when second ranked DongGuan Leopards (17-3) smashed at home 14th ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (6-13) 135-114 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by DongGuan Leopards. Shanxi Zhongyu was better in fourth quarter 32-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. DongGuan Leopards made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Shanxi Zhongyu was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American-Lebanese power forward Jackson Vroman (208-81, college: Iowa St.) who scored 30 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Nigerian guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: Cal.St. Fullerton) chipped in 33 points (!!!), 6 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Shawn Taggart (207-85, college: Memphis) who recorded a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Leon Rodgers (199-80, college: N.Illinois) added 26 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Five DongGuan Leopards and four Shanxi Zhongyu players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. DongGuan Leopards maintains second place with 17-3 record behind leader Xinjiang. Loser Shanxi Zhongyu dropped to the fifteenth position with 13 games lost. DongGuan Leopards will face bottom-ranked TianJin Rongcheng (#17) in Tianjin in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Shanxi Zhongyu will play at home against Zhejiang Cyclones in Hangzhou.
