There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked Tezenis Verona (6-12) defeated at home 12th ranked Assigeco BPL (7-11) 78-71 on Saturday. Assigeco BPL trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 21-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-78 at the end of the game. Tezenis Verona made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Assigeco BPL turnovers. The best player for the winners was Latvian swingman Mareks Jurevicus (198-85) who scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. International power forward Andrea Renzi (208-89, agency: Players Group) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was American-British center Peter Ezugwu (203-76, college: E.Michigan, agency: Interperformances) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and naturalized Argentinian swingman Bruno Cerella (194-86, agency: Players Group) added 18 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Assigeco BPL's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tezenis Verona will face Trenkwalder RE (#14) in Reggio Emilia in the next round.
