Regular Season Round 16: Taipans - Breakers 74-77

The most exciting game of round 16 in the NBL took place in Cairns. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd ranked Cairns Taipans (11-7) to first ranked New Zealand Breakers (14-3) 77-74 on Sunday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 25-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Gary Wilkinson (206-82, college: Utah St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St.) who added 15 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (205-83, college: ODU) responded with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American swingman Ronald Dorsey (197-83, college: McNeese St.) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. New Zealand Breakers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-3 record. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the third place with seven games lost. New Zealand Breakers are looking forward to face Wollongong Hawks (#5) in Gwynneville in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play at home against the league's second-placed Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
