Rather expected game when 9th ranked Ironi Ashkelon (4-12) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Hapoel Holon (7-9) 89-78. It looked good early as Ironi Ashkelon took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hapoel Holon had a 16-13 second period charge getting the lead and Ironi Ashkelon was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-89. Hapoel Holon dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ironi Ashkelon's 34. It was a very good performance for power forward Nir Cohen (202-81, college: San Diego, agency: Gross Zeev ISA) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Rich Melzer (203-79, college: Wisc.-RiverFal., agency: Court Side) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Hapoel Holon's coach Danny Franco allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international guard Dror Hagag (178-78, agency: Avi Zilberman) replied with 13 points and 7 assists and guard Gur Porat (197-79) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ironi Ashkelon. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Holon maintains seventh position with 7-9 record. Ironi Ashkelon lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with 12 games lost. Hapoel Holon's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Hapoel J-M in Jerusalem and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
