Semi-Finals Game 3: Fuerza Regia - Pioneros 96-70

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Pioneros (27-9) in Monterrey on Monday night. Visitors were rolled over by Fuerza Regia (27-9) 96-70. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 26-9 record before this meeting. The game without a history. Fuerza Regia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Pioneros' 30. They outrebounded Pioneros 38-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. Fuerza Regia looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Pioneros' players. The best player for the winners was American guard Mike Mitchell (181-83, college: N.Mexico St.) who scored 15 points, 9 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import forward Jeremis Smith (203-86, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Fuerza Regia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Stephen Soriano (201-84, college: Mesa St.) who recorded 17 points and American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) added 10 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Fuerza Regia have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Pioneros lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position which they share with defeated Pioneros. Fuerza Regia is again looking forward to face league's leader Pioneros in Cancun in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pioneros will have a break next round.
