The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riga: Barons (#4) and VEF Riga junior (#3). Barons (11-7) won against visiting VEF Riga junior (11-6) 76-69. VEF Riga junior trailed by 17 points at halftime and as many as 20 after three quarters before a 23-10 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 69-76 at the end of the game. 24 personal fouls committed by VEF Riga junior helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international center Martins Skirmants (205-77, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Derek Willjam (185-85, college: SMU) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Barons' coach Uvis Helmanis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
