Regular Season Round 16: IR - Grindavik 92-69

The most important game in the last round took place in Reykjavik between second ranked Grindavik (12-4) and ninth ranked IR (6-10) on Thursday night. Grindavik was crushed by IR on the road 69-92. The game was mostly controlled by IR. Grindavik managed to win fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Grindavik 32-21 including 24 on the defensive glass. IR looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Grindavik's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Kelly Biedler (196-88, college: Mt.St.Mary's) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Serbian-Canadian forward Nemanja Sovic (198-77, college: Pfeiffer) contributed with 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Aorleifur Alafsson (192-84) replied with 14 points and American-Italian power forward Ryan Pettinella (206-84, college: Cincinnati) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Grindavik. Four Grindavik players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. IR moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Njardvik. Grindavik at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. They share it with KR. IR is looking forward to face higher ranked Haukar (#5) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Grindavik will play at home against the league's leader Snaefell having rather not much hope for a victory.
