Eighth-ranked Hokkaido (8-19) gave a tough game to third ranked Panasonic Trians (18-9) in Osaka on Saturday. Panasonic Trians managed to secure only twelve-point victory 102-90. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 22-15 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 12-point victory in double-overtime. Panasonic Trians outrebounded Hokkaido 48-28 including a 24-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American forward Jerald Honeycutt (205-74, college: Tulane) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. The former international center Fumihiko Aono (210-78) helped adding 17 points and 10 rebounds. Panasonic Trians' coach Yoshiaki Shimizu used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward Jai Lewis (201-83, college: George Mason, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) with 20 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Takehiko Orimo (190-70) scored 21 points and 5 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Panasonic Trians moved-up to second place. Hokkaido at the other side stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. Panasonic Trians are again looking forward to face bottom-ranked Hokkaido (#8) in Saporro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hokkaido will have a break next round.
