A very close game took place in Osaka between Hitachi Sunrockers and Mitsubishi Dolphins. Fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (12-15) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (9-18). Hitachi Sunrockers managed to escape with a 1-point win 80-79 on Saturday evening. Mitsubishi Dolphins trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 27-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-80 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was the former international center Joji Takeuchi (206-85) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. American power forward Tyler Smith (203-80, college: Penn St.) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Walter Brown-Matsushima (200-75, college: Boston U.) who recorded 14 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hitachi Sunrockers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 12-15 record. Loser Mitsubishi Dolphins keep the seventh position with 18 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will again meet at home Mitsubishi Dolphins (#7) in the next round. Mitsubishi Dolphins will have a break next round.
