Third-ranked Niigata Albirex (14-13) made lots of trouble for first ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (26-2) on Saturday. The visitors from Mikawa managed to secure only three-point victory 84-81. However their fans expected easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Niigata Albirex won fourth quarter 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Niigata Albirex used huge pressure winning it 21-13 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 9-12. Hamamatsu Phoenix forced 19 Niigata Albirex turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Niigata Albirex helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh) who scored 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The other American import forward Jeffrey Parmer (203-85, college: Florida Atlantic) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Trinidad and Tobago power forward Julius Ashby (205-82, college: Colorado) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Nick DeWitz (203-82, college: Oregon St.) added 24 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hamamatsu Phoenix have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 26-2 record. Niigata Albirex at the other side keeps the third place with 13 games lost. Hamamatsu Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata Albirex will play again at home against the league's leader Hamamatsu Phoenix in Mikawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
