Apollon (#7) forced the game against Aris (#4) into an overtime, but lost by five points 60-65 on Sunday night. The hosts trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 18-7 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 5-point victory in overtime. Aris dominated on the defensive end, holding Apollon to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Forward Anna Spiridopoulou (182-88) scored 23 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Niki Hatzakou (175-82) chipped in 19 points during the contest. American forward Kaili McLaren (188-88, college: Connecticut) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and Nigerian-American power forward Nkem Nkele (185-86, college: Cal-Riverside) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Four Apollon players scored in double figures. Aris have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 9-5 record, which they share with Panathinaikos. Apollon at the other side keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. They share the position with FEA Neas. Aris is looking forward to face Panathinaikos (#5) in Athens in the next round. Apollon will play at home against Panionios in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
