Regular Season Round 31: Niigata Albirex - Hamamatsu P. 83-80

Important game to mention about took place in Niigata. Third ranked Niigata Albirex (15-13) saved a 3-point victory at home edging leader Hamamatsu Phoenix (26-3) 83-80 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Hamamatsu Phoenix. It looked good early as Hamamatsu Phoenix took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Niigata Albirex had a 22-17 second period charge getting the lead and Hamamatsu Phoenix was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-83. It was a great evening for Senegalese forward Issa Konare (202-80, college: High Point, agency: Warren Sports International) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 7 rebounds. Trinidad and Tobago power forward Julius Ashby (205-82, college: Colorado) helped adding 13 points and 7 rebounds. Niigata Albirex's coach Masaya Hirose allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side guard Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St., agency: ACMT) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds and British power forward Dzaflo Larkai (203-81, college: Bellarmine) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex maintains third place with 15-13 record having six points less than leader Hamamatsu P. Hamamatsu Phoenix at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Niigata Albirex will play against league's second-placed Osaka Evessa on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play against Oita Heat Devils and hopes to get back on the winning track.
