Second Stage Round 15: Quimsa - Penarol 98-88
Date: February 9, 2011
There was a small surprise when ninth ranked Quimsa (8-7) won against 9th ranked Penarol (7-6) in Santiado Estero 98-88 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 98-88. Quimsa made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for international center Roman Gonzalez (211-78) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Diego Lo Grippo (198-78) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Center Alejandro Diez (201-87) answered with 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Marcos Mata (202-86) added 12 points in the effort for Penarol. Four Quimsa and five Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Sergio Hernandez gave the chance to play for ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Quimsa moved-up to seventh place. Defending champion Penarol keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Quimsa will face Estudiantes (#13) in Bahia Blanca in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Penarol will play on the road against Club 9 (#10) in Rio Tercero and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
