Regular Season Round 34: Korihait - Salon Vilpas 73-75

A very interesting game took place in Uusikaupunki. It ended with only two-point home defeat of higher ranked UU-Korihait (21-13) to tenth ranked Salon Vilpas (12-22) 75-73 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But UU-Korihait won third quarter 20-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Salon Vilpas won last quarter 22-21. Nigerian guard Nick Okorie (185-88, college: Texas Tech) notched 23 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Roope Ahonen (187-90) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Even 23 points and 9 rebounds by American swingman Nigel Moore (195-81, college: Alabama A&M) did not help to save the game for UU-Korihait. His fellow American import forward Lawrence Wright (195-84, college: Bradley) added 20 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Salon Vilpas maintains tenth position with 12-22 record. UU-Korihait at the other side keeps the fourth place with 13 games lost. Salon Vilpas' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Porvoon Tarmo (#12) on the road. UU-Korihait will play against the league's second-placed KTP-Basket (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
