Second Stage Round 15: Wuber-Est.Bahia - Atenas 88-78
Date: February 11, 2011
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Atenas (10-5) against fourteenth ranked Estudiantes (5-9) on Friday night. Visiting Atenas was defeated by Estudiantes in Bahia Blanca 88-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Atenas. The game was mostly controlled by Estudiantes. Atenas was better in third quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for naturalized Italian guard Pablo Gil (188-78) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American-Spanish forward Devin Davis (202-74, college: Miami (OH)) helped adding 19 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Roberto Gabini (198-75, agency: Interperformances) with 22 points and American power forward James Williams (204-79, college: Brown Mackie, agency: Dream Team Management) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atenas' coach Sebastian Gonzalez tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Estudiantes moved-up to thirteenth place. Atenas at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with Lanus. Estudiantes will play against higher ranked Quimsa (#7) in Santiado Estero in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Atenas will play on the road against Argentino (#12) in Junin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
