Regular Season Round 14: Amyntas Dafnis - Lavrio 68-65

Important game to mention about took place in Athens. Eleventh ranked Amyntas Dafnis (6-8) saved a 3-point victory at home edging higher ranked Lavrio (9-5) 68-65 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as Lavrio took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Amyntas Dafnis had a 17-6 second period charge getting the lead and Lavrio was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-68. Amyntas Dafnis dominated on the defensive end, holding Lavrio to just 6 points in second quarter. They also forced 20 Lavrio turnovers. Guard Kostas Vardavas (193-81) had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Babis Samothrakis (189-83) chipped in 19 points during the contest. Swingman Dionysios Giannakopoulos (195-82) responded with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Pavlos Karvounis (180-72) scored 17 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Amyntas Dafnis moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Lavrio dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Panelefsiniakos. Amyntas Dafnis will play against bottom-ranked Near East (#16) in Kesariani in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lavrio will play at home against Periko/Arhelaos (#12) in Perikos and hopes to get back on the winning track.
