Regular Season Round 32: Osaka Evessa - Niigata Albirex 72-67
Date: February 12, 2011
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Osaka Evessa as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Osaka Evessa defeated 3rd ranked Niigata Albirex at home 72-67. The hosts were already 14 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 32-23 Niigata Albirex's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 72-67 at the end of the game. The winners were led by American forward Lawrence Blackledge (203-86, college: Marquette) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import center Wayne Marshall (211-86, college: Temple) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Blackledge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Osaka Evessa players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 10 points and 21 rebounds by American power forward Zachary Andrews (203-85, college: Bradley) did not help to save the game for Niigata Albirex. Trinidad and Tobago power forward Julius Ashby (205-82, college: Colorado) added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Niigata Albirex's coach Masaya Hirose rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Niigata Albirex at the other side keeps the third place with 14 games lost. Niigata Albirex will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Osaka Evessa will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Niigata Albirex at home.
