Second Stage Round 16: Obras - Boca Jrs 89-78

LigaA top team - Obras (12-4) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat fourteenth ranked Boca Juniors (5-12) in Buenos Aires 89-78. The game was mostly controlled by Obras. Boca Juniors was better in fourth quarter 26-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Obras players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Boca Juniors was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by international power forward Juan Gutierrez (205-83) who scored that evening 14 points and guard Alexis Elsener (196-88) supported him with 17 points. Five Obras players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 9 rebounds by American forward Rodney Elliott (202-76, college: Maryland) did not help to save the game for Boca Juniors. Power forward Fernando Martina (202-81) added 16 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for lost side. Obras have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-4 record. Boca Juniors at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 12 games lost. Obras will play against Argentino (#12) in Junin in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Boca Juniors will play at home against Regatas Corrientes and hopes to get back on the winning track.
