There was no surprise when 5th ranked Saitama Broncos (13-19) were defeated on the road by third ranked Okinawa GK (19-13) 87-82 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 26-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Okinawa GK shot 23 for 38 from the free-throw line, while Saitama Broncos only scored seven points from the stripe. Saitama Broncos were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Carlos Dixon (202-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Strategic Sports) who scored 25 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Kenny Satterfield (188-81, college: Cincinnati) who recorded 25 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Yuki Kitamuki (184-85) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Okinawa GK moved-up to second place, which they share with Shiga Lakestars. Loser Saitama Broncos keep the fifth position with 19 games lost. Okinawa GK will face league's second-placed Shiga Lakestars on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saitama Broncos will play against Miyazaki Shining Suns.
