Very important is a road loss of third ranked Cairns Taipans (11-8) against fourth ranked Townsville Crocodiles (12-8) on Sunday night. Visiting Cairns Taipans were defeated by Townsville Crocodiles in a tough game in Wulguru 74-81. The hosts were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 24-19 Cairns Taipans' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 81-74 at the end of the game. The former international guard Peter Crawford (193-79) scored 16 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Michael Cedar (195-86) chipped in 19 points during the contest. Townsville Crocodiles' coach Trevor Gleeson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Daniel Dillon (191-86, college: Arizona) with 17 points and 5 assists and American swingman Ronald Dorsey (197-83, college: McNeese St.) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Townsville Crocodiles moved-up to third place. Cairns Taipans at the other side dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. Townsville Crocodiles will play against Wollongong Hawks (#5) in Gwynneville in the next round. Cairns Taipans will play on the road against Melbourne Tigers and hope to get back on the winning track.
