Sixth-ranked Haukar (8-10) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Keflavik (13-5) in Hafnarfjordur on Monday. The visitors from Keflavik managed to secure only seven-point victory 106-99. However their fans expected easier game. Haukar trailed by 17 points after 3 quarters before a 30-13 run in the last quarter tied the game at the end of regular time, But then they lost eventually overtime period 14-21. Keflavik forced 24 Haukar turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Keflavik made 10 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international center Gunnar Aorsteinsson (204-88) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Thomas Sanders (191-85, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: Duran International) chipped in 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Keflavik's coach Gudjon Skulason used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Semaj Inge (193-87, college: Temple) who recorded a double-double by scoring 32 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 blocks (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Dutch-American forward Gerald Robinson (204-84, college: Tennessee-Martin, agency: Court Side) added 20 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Five Keflavik and four Haukar players scored in double figures. Keflavik moved-up to third place. Newly promoted Haukar keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. Keflavik are looking forward to face Njardvik (#9) in Njardvik in the next round where they are favorite. Haukar will play on the road against the league's leader Snaefell in Stykkisholmur and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
